One study has found that people who have a negative view of themselves in a relationship are far more likely to be susceptible to stress. This stress can lead to anxiety and depression, which can lead to using drugs and alcohol as a way to deal with their problems. A majority of people in drug treatment have a negative view of themselves in a relationship, which is consistent with the findings in the study. But there is hope. People can address the source of their stress and change their circumstances just by identifying these negative self-beliefs.
